This Week's Heat Not the Only Reason to Celebrate Air Conditioning
LATHAM, NY - New Yorkers can thank the "Father of Cool", a native New Yorker and Cornell graduate for cooling them off this weekend.
In July 1902, 109 years ago this weekend, Willis Carrier found the solution to a Brooklyn printing plant's humidity problems and invented the first scientific air conditioning system. The upcoming anniversary might not seem significant, but Carrier's invention has had a major affect on the development of our country and our economy.
Here in the Capital Region, we can thank Willis Carrier's friend, Richard Murray, Sr.; founder of RJ Murray Company, who Carrier entrusted with launching his company's very first distributorship in Albany in 1933.
"Not only has air conditioning made us more comfortable in our homes, it actually contributed to making parts of the country, like Arizona and Nevada, more habitable and open to commercialization," said Bob Murray, president of RJ Murray Company, Inc.
RJ Murray, a third-generation family-owned company headquarted in Latham, NY, with a branch in Burlington,VT, continues to serve over 500 dealers, contractors, government, and industrial accounts from the Canadian border to New York's Orange County, Vermont and western Massachusetts.
